Q. Is there a table that show's each class of animal such as growing steer, bull, pregnant cow, dry cow etc, and then their respective weights (LSU)?
A. In general, cattle producers who do not have sheep are using 450Kg as 1 LU. If you are running sheep & cattle you would be advised to use 45Kg as 1 LU..
Therefore the standard cattle LU would be in fact 10 LUs
The formula used in PAM to calculate LUs uses the average weight of the animals in a mob ... If you have a mob of cattle with an average weight of 450 Kg they would have a LU of 1.
There is a formula built in to PAM so if you enter in the average weight of a mob (say 300 Kg) in the Livestock Activities Diary ... PAM will apply this LU to that mob
(300 ^ 0.75) / (450 ^ 0.75)
the "power of" 0.75 value is used as apparently the grazing demands of cattle (& sheep) tapers off as weight increases)
